WESTFIELD – The Westfield/Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced its "Quality-of-Life" project. According to Executive Director Dennis Kinsella, the initiative is to help U.S. troops in Afghanistan as part of the national Red Cross project.
Troops stationed in Afghanistan are living under harsh conditions. They need items from home such as basic necessities. The Red Cross will solicit the Westfield community for these items. Then, the Red Cross will mark them as coming from Westfield and ship them to the troops in Afghanistan.
Starting Saturday, August 3, 2002 donations will be received at the Westfield American Legion Post, located at 1003 North Avenue, West, (drop-off hours: Tuesdays 10 to 2, Thursdays 4 to 8, Saturdays 10 to 2). Other drop-off sites in the area are being arranged.
See press releases above for details/updates. Call the Red Cross at (908) 232-7090 for information. See www.goleader.com/redcross or www.westfieldnj.com/redcross. A list of items needed is also available at the Red Cross office, 321 Elm Street, Westfield.
