Mary Robinson, CNN Hero and Founder of two children’s grief support centers, including Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss which opened in Westfield in 2011, has opened a private practice in Madison, NJ. “My focus and area of specialty is on grief and loss and life transitions of all types for children, teens, adults, and families,” said Robinson on the opening of her practice MLRobinson & Associates. “This has been a dream of mine I was in high school. I’ve always been fascinated by what drives human behavior, why we suffer, and how we can suffer less. However, life had different plans for me in which I first worked in the corporate world at Prudential for 14 years and then in the field of child and family grief support for the past 20 years while going to school and studying and practicing psychoanalysis.”
In addition to grief and loss, Robinson specializes in working with children and teens, families coping with illness, recovery from eating disorders, and mother-daughter relationships. People are seen individually and in groups. A group for teen girls coping with social anxiety, disordered eating, relationships, and body image is starting in June. Her associates specialize in working with youth and young adults on the autism spectrum, new parents, and adolescents.
Ms. Robinson has an MA in Applied Psychoanalysis and is a Certified Thanatologist and certified in Trauma and Resilience and Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy (PGDT.) She is a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling, serves on the Board of the National Alliance for Grieving Children, and is Chair of the Board of the Academy for Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis in Livingston NJ.
