FANWOOD – The Fanwood Performance Series opens its fall concert season on Saturday, September 9, with a double bill of singersongwriters.
Shawna Caspi is a singer, a poet, a fingerstyle guitar player and a painter. Her songs resonate with stories that are relatable, but told in new and unexpected ways. Based in Toronto, Caspi performs across Canada and in the U.S. Since her previous Fanwood Performance Series appearance in 2016, she has released her fourth and fifth albums. The latest, “Hurricane Coming,” was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year and an Ontario Folk Music Award for Album of the Year.
Meaghan Farrell recently performed on The Rock Boat cruise and at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Florida, and is at work on a new album, “Motherland.” The Harrisburg native, now based in New York and Nashville, expresses through her music the full range of her emotions: from heartbreak to healing, from injustice to empowerment, from anxiety to confidence.
Showtime is 7 p.m. at the community building in Forest Road Park, 200 Forest Road in Fanwood. (The series’ usual venue, the Carriage House next to Borough Hall, is undergoing restoration.) The suggested donation for admission is $15, or $10 for students and seniors, cash at the door. Reservations can be made by emailing fanwoodperformance@gmail.com. Light refreshments are available at intermission.
More information can be found at the series’ website (fanwoodperformanceseries.org) and Facebook page. The Fanwood Performance Series is a presentation of Mayor Colleen Mahr and the Fanwood Arts Council, made possible in part by a HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners. All proceeds from admissions and refreshments help support the nonprofit, volunteer-operated concert series.
