Coming off a spectacular 2022 season the No. 6 Westfield High School girls volleyball team proved that there was plenty of talent remaining when it hosted No. 17 Union Catholic in Westfield on September 7. The Blue Devils won the first game, 25-17, but came up short on the next, 24-26, then recovered to win the third game, 25-19.
Blue Devil Genevieve Gauthier recorded 12 assists, 12 digs and five service points with an ace. Abby Pevzner notched seven kills while adding a block and a dig. Chloe Wiedman scooped 10 digs and had eight service points with a pair of aces. Giuliana Gallo had 12 digs, four assists, a kill and four service points. Caitlin Cabrales recorded nine service points with an ace, six kills and nine digs.
Ava Gaspard had five kills and a block. Catie Carayannopoulos had four kills and a dig. Olivia Calandra had seven service points with three aces, seven assists and two digs. Karolina Bonn had six service points with an ace, two kills, three blocks and a dig. Carys Evans recorded three kills, a block and a dig. Gabby Flannery had four digs and an assist.
Viking Haiden Fuhrmann notched nine kills and added three digs and four service points. Rachel Williams recorded seven kills, five digs, a block and two service points. Alex Landazabal had 10 assists, five digs, a kill and five service points with two aces. Ryan Gorski had five service points and six digs. Bella Capati had eight assists, two kills, two digs and two service points. Zia Oriol had five service points with two aces and two blocks. Gabby Kelly notched three kills, two blocks and two digs. Alyssa Kenol had two kills and two blocks.
