SUMMIT — The Fountain Baptist Church Music Department of Summit will present a free Gospel Concert Jubilee this Saturday, September 23, at 6 p.m., to celebrate the church’s historic 125th anniversary and its long commitment to ministry, missions, praise and worship. The musical program will take place in the church’s sanctuary and will trace the evolution of gospel music through song while highlighting the role music has had in the church and social history. The musical talents and artistry of Fountain Baptist Church’s four choirs, its musicians, and invited guest performers will be featured in the concert. All are invited to attend this free celebration, where refreshments also will be served. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Fountain Baptist Church is located at 116 GlensideAvenue, Summit, and is the oldestAfrican-American church in Summit. The church was founded as a Bible study in 1898 by Violet A. Johnson, a domestic servant, and has become an internationally-recognized worldwide leader in charitable giving, foreign missions and social change. Fountain Baptist Church has a congregation of more than 2,000 and has been faithfully pastored by the Reverend Dr. J. Michael Sanders for the past 40 years.
