At the September 11 special board of education meeting, the Westfield BOE bowed to political pressure from BOE member Sahar Aziz (and her supporters) and rescinded their motion to consider Aziz’s removal for missing three consecutive BOE meetings. The BOE was well within its right to consider removing her according to state law and BOE policy. The motion introduced at the prior meeting was to consider if her three consecutive absences were for “good cause”, the standard required under state law NJSA 18A:12-3. Determination of “good cause” is up to the board.
