GARWOOD — After sparring over a request to change the fire department’s code regarding residency requirements, the Garwood Borough Council and fire committee finally agreed on ordinance 2328, which was introduced during the October 12 meeting of the governing body. The ordinance changes the structure of the department by eliminating several officer positions, and adding certification requirements for officer positions. It also changes the prior residency requirement that members of the volunteer department must reside within three miles of the borough to any resident of Union County. New language also specifies that if the department has it’s maximum of 50 members, a Garwood Resident would be shown preference for membership.
