“Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” - Winston Churchill With this pithy statement, Winston Churchill aptly summarized what we have come to learn over the past 250 years in this country: democracy is hard, but it is the only path towards a legitimate and properly functioning government. Government officials must undertake the unenvious job of allocating finite resources and doing so in a vibrant political arena with competing and clashing viewpoints can be challenging, to say the least. Democracy is often messy, sometimes gridlocked, but never boring. Its gains are slow moving, but its checks and balances prevent a slippery slope towards catastrophe. This is the path we’ve chosen in America and in Westfield. We chose wisely.
