The Westfield High School girls and boys swim teams got another golden opportunity to mix in various combinations when the Blue Devils traveled to Union to face the Farmers on January 10. The 5-1 Blue Devil girls glided to a 139-27 victory while the 6-0 Blue Devil boys cruised to a 130-20 victory.
Beginning with the 200-medley relay, Blue Devils Clare Logan, Emily Constable, Meena Oberoi and Keri Kapuscinski finished first with a time of 2:00.84, followed by Ava Contract, Jane Kavanagh, Mina Pektas and Charlotte Lehman at 2:07.15. Sophia Fussman led the 1-2-3 sweep in the 200-freestyle at 2:18.16, followed by Emily Kapuscinski at 2:19.05 and Sydney Gross at 2:24.26. Brooke McAndrew led the sweep in the 200-Individual Medley at 2:35.34, followed by Lehman and Hailey Walker.
Isabella Giaccobe won the 50-free in 27.98, followed by Jacqueline Moser and Anna Victorino. Pektas took first in the 100-butterfly at 1:08.66, followed by McAndrew at 1:08.88 and Victorino. Emily Kapuscinski won the 100-free in 1:02.22, followed by Gross and Desra Sonnek-Schmelz. Constable took first in the 500-free at 5:45.52, followed by Cecilia Wiggins and Oberoi. Kavanagh, Pektas, McAndrew and Walker took first in the 200-free relay at 1:57.49, followed by Diana Ozersky, Moser, Fussman and Walker.
Giaccobe took top honors in the 100-backstroke at 1:09.67, followed by Keri Kapuscinski. Kavanagh won the 100-breaststroke at 1:20.32, followed by Fussman and Ozersky. Keri Kapuscinski, Giaccobe, Emily Kapuscinski and Wiggins touched first in the 400-free relay at 4:15.28, followed by Oberoi, Gross, Lehman and Contract.
In the boys 200-medley relay, Logan Swenson, Cole Sharkey, Hudson Wilcomes and Andrew Vorobiev touched first at 1:54.07, followed by Owen Waibel, Gavin Gimblette, Ben Zhou and Flynn Martin at 2:02.04. Ben Lane won the 200-freestyle in 2:02.05, followed by Archie Mtsituri at 2:06.48 and Joe Kiley at 2:10.27. Dylan Altman finished first in the 200-Individual Medley at 2:14.44, followed by Benedict Nematadzira at 2:20.13 and Liam Mulkeen at 2:25.04.
Artem Dobrovolskyi won the 50free in 23.9, followed by Wes Young at 25.45 and Adam Goddard at 25.94. Mike Fisher took first in the 100butterfly at 57.28, followed by Mtsituri at 1:03.32 and Union’s Pat Abesamis at 1:14.03.Alejandro Villar took first in the 100-free at 56.75, followed by Hudson Berg at 1:05.65 and Elias Chang at 105.86. Dan McGann won the 500-free in 5:27.59, followed by Vorobiev at 6:03.23 and Zhou at 6:32.48.
Sharkey, Lane, Lagrimas and Kiley won the 200-free relay in 1:39.7, followed by Danny Pierce, Young, Berg and Mulkeen at 1:42.89. Martin won the 100-backstroke in 1:09.71, followed by Alex Fu at 1:12.7 and Logan Welsh at 1:14.56. Mulkeen won the 100-breaststroke at 1:14.36, followed by Gimblette at 1:17.44 and Farmer Ethan Sumiquiab at 1:19.87. Dobrovolskyi, Altman, Villar and Lagrimas won the 400-free relay in 3:39.38, followed by Lane, Kiley, Charlie Jeckell and Nematadzira at 3:42.64.
