Cougars Edge Elizabeth, Tripped Up By Pioneers, Trample So. Pl. Tigers
A very close call turned out to be in the favor of the Cranford High School girls basketball Cougars when they squeaked by the Elizabeth Lady Minutemen, 47-45, in Elizabeth on January 30. Next came a formidable showdown on February 1 in Cranford with New Providence, the defending Union County Tournament champions, and the 18-3 Pioneers emerged with a 5035 victory. On February 3, the 14-6 Cougars licked their wounds and trampled the South Plainfield Tigers, 53-28.
