After yielding two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School softball team got very stingy with its pitching, scored twice in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth to emerge with a 4-2 victory over theALJohnson Crusaders in the season opener on April 1. Raider starting pitcher Maddie Bogart tossed the first three innings, allowing three hits, while walking four and striking out one batter. Olivia DiSalvo pitched the final four innings, struck out six and walked just one.
DiSalvo also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Angelina Valente doubled and had three RBI. Emily Roof doubled and scored once. Samantha Friscia walked and scored once. Sairah Llano had an RBI single. Sarina Llano singled. ALJ pitcher Cassie Conforti recorded 10 strikeouts. Liz Fitzharris singled twice, walked and scored once. Liz Yanni had an RBI single and scored once. Isabella Todero singled. Conforti, Krista LaBianca and Shannon Lancellotti each walked once.
On April 4, the Raiders could not get a handle on the Elizabeth Minutemen in an 8-0 setback. Llano was charged with the loss and recorded six strikeouts. Roof rapped a pair of singles as did Valente. Maddie Bogart singled twice and stole a base. Olivia DiSalvo singled once.
Elizabeth winning pitcher Makayla Leckey singled, scored once and had an RBI. Naviya Torres tripled, singled, scored twice and had an RBI. Gabi Rojas singled twice, walked and scored. Alyssa Davis had two hits and scored. Faith Medina singled, had two RBI and scored once. Ashanti Dewalt singled, scored once and had an RBI.
