Blue Devil Laxmen Shut Off Delbarton’s Green Wave, 9-7

One Top-5 ranked team after another plus a few others strutted into Gary Kehler Stadium this season and every one stumbled out with a loss. On April 4, the Blue Devils stunned the Summit Hilltoppers, 5-3, knocked off then No. 1 Seton Hall Prep, 10-9, on April 12 then on April 19, they reduced the Delbarton Green Wave to a ripple with a 9-7 triumph.

Incredibly stubborn defense led by senior Mike Marshall and some crafty goals by the offense turned out to be the proper formula for the 6-1 Blue Devils, who delivered the Green Wave with their only loss to a New Jersey team. Marshall, who dished out an assist, recorded eight ground balls but his tide-changing takeaway came at midfield with the score tied, 6-6, midway through the fourth quarter where he set up attacker Garrett Ferguson (goal, assist), who slid one home.

With Delbarton still dazed, the Blue Devils added another goal two minutes later when midfielder LukeAngelo set up senior attacker Cody Lam, whose overhead slam upped the lead to 8-6 then with 1:29 remaining, Lam hooked around from behind the net, saw a nearly empty net and flicked in his third goal of the game.
