Blue Devils Startle No. 9 GL; Score 5 in 5th, Top Bernards

A highly anticipated showdown between the visiting Governor Livingston Highlanders and the Westfield High School baseball team went in favor of the Blue Devils, 125, at Bob Brewster, Sr. Field on April 26. The very next day the visiting, No. 13, 11-1 Blue Devils scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to unsettle Bernards, 5-1.

Winning pitcher Tomas Cestero was on the mound for 5.2 innings and struck out eight Highlanders. Logan Revock relieved and held GL scoreless. Braedan Trajkovski went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, a walk and a run scored. Jake Alfano tripled, singled, walked, scored once and had two RBI. Cestero singled, walked, scored twice and had an RBI. Randy Davis doubled, walked, was hit and had two RBI. Kellen Edwards walked, swiped a base and had an RBI. Nic Labin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Aaron Ives was hit and scored once. Mikey Lynch singled, was hit and scored twice. Liam Sullivan singled, walked, was hit, scored once and had an RBI.

11-2 GL’s Anthony DeNora whacked a home run. Matt Kosuda doubled, singled and had an RBI. Mike Novotny doubled, singled, walked and stole a base. Dylan Gardner tripled, scored once and had two RBI. Matt Shaffer was hit, stole a base and scored. Dom Labisi had an RBI. Zach Geertsma singled and stole a base. Mike Basile scored once. Labisi was charged with the loss.

Kevin Dowling tossed a four-hitter against Bernards, while walking three, hitting a batter and striking out seven. Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Sullivan drilled a two-run single and scored once. Ives had an RBI single. Edwards singled, was hit and scored once. Trajkovski doubled and scored once. Alfano doubled and walked. Cestero was hit and walked once. Losing pitcher Casey Hoeckele had an RBI single. Matt Falzarano singled, was hit and scored once. Charlie Gonella and Ryan Tondo each singled.
