The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School girls lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking, 11-10, defeat at the sticks of the New Providence Pioneers on May 14. The very next day, the 9-8 Raiders took it out on the Columbia Cougars with a 19-8 triumph.
Raider Juliana Doran flicked in seven goals and added an assist, two draw controls and two ground balls against the Pioneers. Erin Ryan put in two goals and added an assist and a ground ball. Carina DiLollo had a goal, draw control and a ground ball. Kayla Murray had four draw controls and two ground balls. Rachel Levy had two assists and scooped a pair of ground balls. Goalkeeper Elissa Steingart recorded eight saves.
Pioneer Cara Lawton put in six goals and had two draw controls. Stephie Hughes had two goals, an assist and two draw controls. Jillian Toy scored twice. Megan McPoland finished with a goal, assist and eight draws. Rowan Henry had an assist.
Against Columbia, Doran stuffed in six goals and added five draws and three ground balls. DiLollo recorded five goals and had two draw controls. Murray, Grace Cawley and Ryan each scored twice and had a ground ball. Levy scored twice and Mackenzie Harmer scooped three ground balls. Steingart recorded eight saves and scooped three ground balls.
Olivia Fitzsimmons netted three goals and three ground balls for 8-8 Columbia. Evie Campbell finished with two goals, an assist, a draw and a ground ball. Amelia Burroughs had eight draw controls, seven ground balls and a goal. Maddie McKinstrie and Susanna Knutsen (3 ground balls) each scored once. Anabel MacGuire had an assist and three draw controls.
