The No. 8, 20-1 West Windson-Plainsboro South (WWPS) boys tennis team defeated the No. 16, 17-6 Westfield Blue Devils, 3-2, for the title at the Blue Devil Invitational held at the Westfield Tennis Club on May 18. In the opening round, the Blue Devils shut out the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers, 5-0.
In the title game, WWPS won all three singles matches and the Blue Devils won both doubles matches. Kokulnath Ramasamy defeated Eshaan Khera, 6-4, 6-3, at first singles. Shritan Gopu topped Deven Patel, 63, 6-1, at second singles and Karthik Buddhidnesh stopped Chris Winters, 6-3, 6-3, at third singles.
Cole Hornbeck and Colin Cimei beat Shriyan Kumar and Rohan Ramachandran, 6-2, 6-2, at first doubles. The second doubles match was much tighter with Evan Kahn and Evan Sewald edging Rohit Datta and Rich Hao, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5 Against the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers, Patel jumped up to first singles and defeated Siddarth Balasubramanian, 6-0, 6-2. Sewald jumped to second singles and stopped Brandon Wu, 6-3, 6-2. Winters won his match, 6-2, 6-0, at third singles. At first doubles, Cimei and Hornbeck beat Nick Brauchle and Aditya Shetty, 6-0, 6-0. Kahn and Justin Lee topped Gurucharan Mannur and Kairav Mehta, 6-1, 6-4, at second doubles.
