The eighth-seededALJohnson High School boys lacrosse team upped its record to 16-4 with a 15-7 victory over ninth-seeded Lower Cape May in the first round of the South Jersey, Group 1 Tournament in Clark on May 22.
Crusader Rob Tyra flicked in five goals and Adrian Varona netted four goals. Lucas Spearnock finished with two goals and three assists. Matt Robertazzi scored twice and added an assist. Julian Bencivegna had a goal and an assist. Xander Cistaro scored once. Face-off specialist Joey Ortega won 19 of 25 face-offs and scooped 18 ground balls, while adding an assist. Jack Kalikas scooped six ground balls and had a assist. Dan Robertazzi scooped three ground balls and Jack Forfa had an assist. Goalkeeper Jake Szarszewski recorded 10 saves.
Ryan Gibson netted three goals for Lower Cape May. Jake Robson had two goals and an assist. Dennis Serra had a goal and an assist. Zac Castellano scored once.
