The seventh-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys lacrosse team watched a relatively comfortable lead dissolve when 10th-seeded Red Bank Regional netted five goals in the third quarter but the Raiders held on to claim a 7-6, overtime victory in the first round of the North Jersey, Group 3 Tournament in Scotch Plains on May 22.
Nick Homer scored three goals for the 10-9 Raiders and added an assist and a ground ball. Colin McAuliffe finished with a goal, assist and four ground balls. Jack Wall had a goal and an assist and scooped 20 ground balls. Ryan Scarpa and Jake Timchak each scored once. Louis Kelly and Caden Matulonis each scooped three ground balls. Ryan Mauer won 14 of 17 face-offs and scooped 13 ground balls. Aidan Fairweather had an assist. Colin Kochanowicz, Ben Filler and Cooper Dupuis each scooped two ground balls.
