Carlos Santos, a duly filed candidate for Chair of the Union County Regular Republican Organization, issued the following statement to current Chairman Glenn Mortimer Tuesday: Chairman, having asked this question privately on multiple occasions to both yourself, your legal representatives, and your appointed Convention representatives without receiving an answer, and having been made aware that other local leaders have been informed of a settled upon date, I ask now publicly: What is the date of our County reorganization meeting?
As you are aware, the County organization is required to have this meeting within the next three to four weeks and every other County with a contested Chairs race has already publicly announced the date of their reorganization meeting.
Why then is the Union County Republican Organization the last to do so? Indeed, we are now well beyond the traditional timeline for notification even by your own historical standards. With hundreds of new County Committee members set to participate in this process for the first time, it is all the more important that we as an organization make every effort to have a fair, transparent and open process.
That starts with publicly announcing the date of the meeting.
That is why I, along with 50 signed County Committee members, have called for a special meeting to publicly outline the rules that will govern the reorganization meeting, though I understand that has been rejected by your Counsel.
I urge you to reconsider and to at the very least tell all of us now when the reorganization meeting will be held. Hundreds of duly elected County Committee people are eager to participate. These are Republicans in all 21 towns who have volunteered their time, resources, and effort to grow our party and contribute to its future success – we should make it easy for them to do so.
