Tai Chi, November 15, 22 and Dec 6 from 3 to 4 p.m. at The Westfield Memorial Library. Dr. Gang Huang will begin teaching another session of The Fundamentals of Tai Chi. Westfield Area YMCA Paint and Donate. Show your appreciation through creation and paint a canvas in honor of Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 8 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Westfield Area YMCA, 220 Clark St. Westfield. All artwork will be donated to VFW Homefront Heroes to brighten the lives of those who have served. This event is open to the community and $10 to participate. The Fanwood Performance Series presents an evening of indie-alternative music with Matt Cook & The Heard, a five-piece band based in Asbury Park. Mr. Cook writes songs that range from melancholic to exuberant, drawing influence from artists including Brian Wilson and Ben Folds. Team members from Ivy Rehab will provide practical exercises to prevent injury and improve overall health. Safe Sitter Babysitting Course, Saturday November 23, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Westfield Recreation Department is offering a Safe Sitter Babysitting (with CPR) certification class for teens in grades 6 to 9. Students learn lifesaving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information on what to do if there’s severe weather. role-playing exercises. Students will use CPR manikins to demonstrate skills for choking rescue and CPR and receive certification! Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures, weather, or household emergencies. Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. They also learn the ages and stages of child development and childcare. First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue and CPR is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Pre-Registration is required.
