One week after taking top honors in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Meet, the Westfield High School boys cross-country team placed third at the Group 4 Championship in Holmdel on November 9. Cherokee took first with a total of 73, followed closely by Cherry Hill East at 75, while the Blue Devils were third at 97.
In a highly contested finish, Luke Pash (Ridgewood) crossed first with a time of 15:52, followed closely by Clay Stevens (Manalapan) at 15:53 and Maximus Bonilla (Elizabeth) at 15:54. Blue Devil senior Ryan Daly finished fifth at 16:14 and junior Brody Toriello finished 14th at 16:32. Blue Devils Kaleb Stoeckmann at 16:52, Alexander Davlouros at 16:54 and Cole Varner at 17:01 finished 2730-39. Jack Hill and Cristian Buonopane finished 60-83.
Princeton won the girls Group 4 with a total of 84, followed by Ridgewood at 95 and Cherokee at 118. Manalapan was fifth at 149 and Westfield took seventh at 189.
Sadie Honig at 18:40 and Jessica Abbott at 18:41 both of Manalapan finished 1-2. Blue Devil senior Anna Kylish finished 14th at 19:46 and sophomore Anna Youssef finished 15th at 19:54. Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raider Malissa Morabito crossed 29th at 20:19. Blue Devils Emma Pranke at 20:37 and Jessica Zhou at 21:19 finished 35-64. Vanessa Larkin and Emily Drennan finished 89-95.
For the girls Group 3, Colts Neck took the team title with an 89 total and the Cranford Cougars placed 11th at 327. Liliah Gordon of North Burlington Regional finished first with a time of 17:58. Cougars Ellie Semple at 21:14, Ava Orr at 21:26 and Caitlin Owens at 21:31 finished 53-64-71. Claire Kelly and Maanya Kuthethur finished 96-99.
