Mountainside to Fund Generator Project

MOUNTAINSIDE — The Mountainside Council met Tuesday night, when officials conducted a final vote to approve up to $75,000 from the capital improvement fund and to award a contract not to exceed $499,000 for the purchase and installation of a generator at borough hall.

Rather than awarding the contract through a competitive bid process, the borough will use Sourcewell Co-Op approved contractor Air Group, LLC of Whippany, which is an authorized Generac Power Systems Inc. vendor.

No date has been set on when the project will begin.

At the meeting, Mayor Paul N. Mirabelli announced that the borough has been awarded a grant of $218,674 by the New Jersey Department of Transportation for road repairs.

“One of the roads that was included in this grant is Outlook Drive West,” Mayor Mirabelli said. “I know we’ve had a number of people come here and say how bad it is, so now we have the funding to do it. So some time next year, we should be paving Outlook West.”

Also at the meeting, the council congratulated Jackson Hyman on having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America. Only a small percentage of Boy Scouts nationwide are able to achieve that rank, which is earned through years of hard work, leadership and service.

According to the governing body’s proclamation, for his Eagle Scout Project, Jackson beautified The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, cleared and created a dozen pathways to improve parking lot accessibility, laid a slate walkway, and built a new bench, improving and enhancing the aesthetics for the community.

“I was a Cub Scout since I was in kindergarten,” Jackson said. “It was always a dream of mine. It’s so surreal that I’m already [an Eagle Scout]. I’m very thankful for the people around me. It is a great honor and I will cherish it for many years to come.”

Jackson currently serves as a Scout Patrol Leader. His achievement will reflect on not only his dedication to help the community, but also to support the community of Mountainside, as well as his family, fellow Scouts and troop leaders.
