It is with a great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Anne Carrea, age 56, of Boonton, N.J. Kathleen was born in Summit, N.J., and raised in Garwood.
Kathy attended David Brearley Regional High School in Kenilworth, where she earned 12 Varsity letters (softball, basketball and field hockey) and was named Miss Regional. As a recipient of a Governor’s Teaching Scholarship, she attended Douglass College, Rutgers University.
Upon graduation from Douglass College, she worked as a writer for trade publications based in New York and traveled throughout the country.
Kathy’s athletic accomplishments also included completing the New York City, Boston and Quebec City Marathons plus numerous triathlons. She later put her skills to work as an Assistant Softball Coach at Nutley High School and Assistant Track Coach at Montville High School.
Kathy is survived by her parents, Mary Carrea, Dominic Carrea and his wife, Beatrice; brothers, Dominic Jr. and James and his wife, Jennifer; her beloved nephews, Dominic, Joseph and Michael; friend, partner and former colleague, Barry Zawacki; loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, December 23, 2024, at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
