Jones, Loomis Make AllArea Football

Scotch PlainsFanwood High School seniors Nathan Jones and Dan Loomis were selected to The Courier News First Team AllArea football list. A total of seven Raiders, five Westfield Blue Devils and three Governor Livingston Highlanders received First, Second or Third Team honors or were named to the Honorable Mention list.

Jones did it all but was recognized for his outstanding offensive ability. He led the area with 35 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown for 216 points according to The Westfield Leader and The Times of Scotch PlainsFanwood. Jones rushed for 2,439 yards and added 227 yards receiving. Loomis was one of the great Raider offensive linemen who made it easier for Jones to find an opening and dart for all of those touchdowns.

Blue Devils Chris Giacone, Pat Tuohy, Mike Ciacciarelli, Brian Williams and Terrence Jenkins were Honorable Mentions. Neighborhood Council Has Aerobic Fun Fitness Session

Health and fitness was the topic of a program presented by Claire Lazarowitz for the Student Tutorial Enrichment Program of the Westfield Neighborhood Council. Using colorful balls and lively rhythmic music, Ms. Lazarowitz delighted the children with a variety of aerobic and strength training exercises. Approximately fifteen children, ages six through 12 attended the program.

“I like squeezing the balls in our legs and I like when we stretched. I thought that the marching was really fun,” explained Latee Hilliard, one of the children who attended the Health and Fitness program.

“I like the squats and twists and the colored balls,” stated Edwin Simmons, another child who attended.

“The exercising was fun and I lost a little bit of weight,” joked Jocelyn Tiler, a regular at the Friday enrichment program.

Ms. Lazarowitz is a personal trainer and teaches aerobics at the Jewish Community Center of Scotch Plains. She is the chairperson of the School Committee and a member of the

Board of Trustees of the Westfield Neighborhood Council.

“I thought Claire’s program on health and fitness was stimulating and enriching We really appreciate it when volunteers help the children to learn new and exciting information,” stated Ezella Johnson, Director of the Westfield Neighborhood Council.

The WNC Student Tutorial Enrichment Program offers daily after school tutoring. It also offers the Friday Enrichment program coordinated by Johnson and volunteers Donna Rothstein and Wendy Horn. Programs in dance, skin care, creative writing, percussion, dental health, pet care and much more are presented through the program. Members of the community arc invited to volunteer to present programs on topics of interest or areas of skill by contacting the Westfield Neighborhood Council at (908) 2332772.
