Miss Patricia Gallagher and Dr. Frederick Merkle

Miss Patricia Gallagher To Wed Dr. Frederick Merkle

Mrs. Kathleen Gallagher of Nutley and James Gallagher of Bloomfield have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Patricia Aileen Gallagher, to Dr. Frederick Broeker Merkle. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. F. Henry Merkle of Scotch Plains.

The bride-elect graduated from Paul VI High School in 1987 and from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island in 1991.

She received her master’s degree in reading at Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, and pres

ently teaches first grade at Heights School in Oakland.

Her fiancé graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in 1988 and from Cook College in New Brunswick in 1992.

He was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from New York University in 1997, and completed a residency in general practice at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark.

A July wedding is planned.

Jack Preston Born to Halls

Maribeth Preston Hall and David Rich Hall of Westfield have announced the birth of their son, Jack Preston Hall, at 12:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Jack weighed 8 pounds and 2 ounces and measured 21½ inches in length at birth.

His maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Preston of Atlantic Highlands.

The baby’s paternal grandparents are Cliff and Holly Hall of Westfield.

Luis F. Rodriguez, 3rd and Miss Debbie Aniunas

Miss Debbie Aniunas To Marry Luis Rodriguez, 3rd

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Aniunas of Piscataway have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Debbie Aniunas of Somerset, to Luis F. Rodriguez, 3rd of Westfield. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Luis Rodriguez of San Diego, California.

A lifelong resident of Piscataway, the bride-to-be graduated in 1995 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering.

She is a member of the Professional Engineering Society and cur

rently employed as a Project Manager with Applied Water Technology in Middlesex.

The future bridegroom graduated from Park Ridge High School and has lived in Westfield for seven years. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1995 and his Master of Science Degree in 1997, both in BioResource Engineering, from Rutgers University.

Mr. Rodriguez is currently enrolled in doctorate program studies for Artificial Intelligence Applications of Interdisciplinary Systems Controls for a manned space program to Mars.

He has presented many technical seminars and papers to NASA and to JPL in Pasadena, California. His current field of study, which he expects to complete in the spring of 2000, is part of a NASA grant to Rutgers University under the ENSCORT Project.

A wedding is planned for June.

Miss Melissa Hughes Horner Weds Paul Anthony Riley

Miss Melissa Hughes Horner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hughes Horner of Westfield and Cape May, was married on Saturday, October 10, to Paul Anthony Riley of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Riley, also of Mount Pleasant.

The afternoon ceremony took place at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, with the Reverend Christina McCormick officiating. A reception was held at the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a pure silk shantung Galina gown with beaded Alencon lace and a chapel-length train complemented by a fingertiplength ivory tulle veil. She carried a bouquet of white and cream roses mixed with freesia and bouvardia.

Mrs. Christy Thomas of North Plainfield and Miss Jennifer Horner of Westfield, the sisters of the bride, served as the matron and maid of

honor, respectively. The bridesmaids were Miss Bonnie Czander of Atlanta, Georgia and Miss Stephanie Chu of Westfield.

Each wore a full-length navy gown by Jim Helm and carried a bouquet of cream roses mixed with alstromeria and bouvardia.

Summer and Ryan Thomas of North Plainfield, the niece and nephew of the bride, were the flower girl and ring bearer.

John Riley of Mount Pleasant, the brother of the bridegroom, served as the best man. The ushers included Troy Crawford of Mount Pleasant, Lee Royall of Homewood, Alabama, Bobby Coskrey of Charleston, South Carolina, and Paul Harrington of Chapin, South Carolina.

James Thomas of North Plainfield and Peter Kapetanakos of Greenville, South Carolina read Scripture passages during the ceremony.

A 1987 graduate of Westfield High School, the bride was awarded her business degree from Wesley College in Delaware.

The bridegroom, who graduated from Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He is employed as an account executive for Maersk, Inc.

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the bridegroom at The Spanish Tavern in Mountainside.

Following a wedding trip to Bermuda, the couple reside in San Francisco, California.

Susanna Chilnick Earns Dean’s List Honors At Brandeis University

WESTFIELD — Susanna Chilnick of Westfield was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 1998 semester at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Susanna is the daughter of Larry and Janet Chilnick.

Dean’s List honors are awarded to students who have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better. Six Westfield Students

Achieve Dean’s List At James Madison

WESTFIELD – Six Westfield residents were among those students at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia who achieved Dean’s List status for the Fall 1998 semester.

They included Donald S. Cambria, Mark L. Cerefice, Sarah L. Lechner, Michael F. Rodihan, Meghan G. Schwarzenbek and Kristen M. Toriello.

Kimberly Heine Earns Degree At Purdue Univ.

SCOTCH PLAINS – Kimberly Anne Heine of Scotch Plains received a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer and Family Science from Purdue University during winter commencement ceremonies.
